Zachary Besecker, Psy.D,
Licensed Psychologist
Pronouns: He/him/his
Languages in which I conduct therapy: English
My approach to therapy: I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and a solution-focused approach to help students begin taking steps towards what is most important to them. Within the first few appointments, it can often be helpful to discuss client values and goals for services to ensure therapy can assist with what is most important to each person. As a therapist, my priority is striving to ensure each student I work with can have a supportive space to explore difficult topics and develop skills to best manage challenging moments. I also have a professional interest and passion for working with athletes and those striving for high performance in areas such as art, theatre, and other relevant domains.
My approach to supervision: I use a humanistic approach to supervising to best support trainees becoming exceptional practitioners. This includes recognizing the effects of not just the trainee and the clients they work with but the role that community, our profession, and myself as a supervisor have on the clinical work being done.
A Fun Fact: I enjoy scuba diving and spending time with my dog, a golden retriever named Cooper.
