Membership in SALUTE signifies your service, academic excellence and a commitment to high principles and superior achievement throughout your lifetime. Your SALUTE designation will set you apart from the crowd.

SALUTE stands for Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence are the foundation blocks of our honor society and the foundation of your success:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Undergraduate Students:

  • Degree-seeking.
  • Must have completed at least 12 credit hours with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

Graduate Students (master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees):

  • Degree-seeking.
  • Must have competed at least 9 credit hours with a minimum 3.5 overall GPA.

CLASSIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate students are classified in the following tiers based upon GPA level:

  • Alpha Tier GPA: 3.75 - 4.00 
  • Bravo Tier GPA: 3.50 - 3.74
  • Charlie Tier GPA: 3.25 - 3.49
  • Delta Tier GPA: 3.00 - 3.24

Graduate students are classified as 鈥淪ALUTE Gold Member.鈥 

MEMBERSHIPS:

SALUTE Individual Membership:  Offered to active duty, reserve, guard and veterans.

SALUTE Honorary Membership:

National Honorary membership may be offered for up to seven (7) percent of the total membership of SALUTE as determined by the Executive Steering Committee.  Honorary members shall be persons who have made or are willing to make distinctive contributions to the cause of student veterans, the chapter, and the Office of Veteran Success.

Honorary members may be spouses, dependents, faculty, community leaders, and other non-active or non-veteran personnel, and shall be nominated by a SALUTE Chapter, or by the SALUTE staff to the Executive Steering Committee for approval.

BENEFITS:

  • Lifetime membership
  • Receive a certificate and military-style challenge coin commemorating membership in SALUTE and specific level of academic achievement.
  • Ability to compete for scholarships.
  • Enhance your resume with formal academic acknowledgement and engage in local leadership positions.
  • Wear SALUTE Honor鈥檚 regalia to demonstrate academic achievements as a veteran status at graduation.

APPLICATIONS:   There are three types of applications. Please verify your eligibility, classification and membership and submit the correct application.

SALUTE Active Members Application:

This application is for active members (active duty, reserve, guard, and veterans only). 

Expectations for active members are to be involved by attending the mandatory meetings, volunteering, and participating at community, SALUTE, and Office of Veteran Success events provided or authorized by the USF SALUTE Chapter.

Additional Benefits for this application:

  • Participate in local, and National, SALUTE programs.
  • Opportunities to network, as well as receive and give assistance to fellow student veteran members.
  • Receive the red, white, and blue veteran cord at no cost.
  • Receive the SALUTE stole at no cost.
  • Be recognized at football or basketball games.
  • Be recognized and celebrated at the induction and graduation ceremony and be able to bring guest/family members at no cost.

SALUTE Honorary Members Application:

This application is for honorary members (honorary members may be spouses, dependents, faculty, staff, community leaders, and other non-active or non-veteran personnel). 

Expectations for honorary members are to be involved by attending the mandatory meetings, volunteering, and participating at community, SALUTE, and Office of Veteran Success events provided or authorized by the USF SALUTE Chapter.

Additional Benefits for this application:

  • Participate in local, and National, SALUTE programs.
  • Opportunities to network, as well as receive and give assistance to fellow student veteran members.
  • Receive the SALUTE stole at no cost.
  • Be recognized at football or basketball games.

SALUTE Non-Active Members Application:

This application is for salute non-active members, individuals not wishing to be involved with the organization nor participate or volunteer in any events (for active duty, reserve, guard, and veterans). This application is not for dependents.

There are no additional benefits. These members will pay for everything out of pocket and will not be recognized in the induction and graduation ceremonies, nor the networking event, or the basketball or football recognitions.

APPLICATION DATES:

The application will open December 10th, 2023 at 5:00 AM

The application will close February 4th, 2024 at 11:59 PM

Applications take place at the beginning of every semester; however, Induction and  graduation ceremonies only take place during the Fall and Spring semesters.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

1)     You must attend a SALUTE meeting before completing the online application.

2)     Verify you meet the eligibility, classification and membership and submit the correct application.

3)     Have the following electronic documents available for submission

  • Unofficial college transcripts (order here)
  • (If applicable for veterans) DD-214, showing HONORABLE discharge (black out SSN).
  • (If applicable for active duty, reserve, and guard) current military orders.
  • Upload a professional picture of yourself to be used for our events to include induction and graduation ceremonies (mandatory).
  • (For active duty, reserve, guard, and veterans). Include your SALUTE membership payment order/receipt number. Once you make a $35 SALUTE membership payment, you will be provided an order #.   
  • (For Honorary members). DO NOT MAKE THE PAYMENT. SALUTE only authorizes 7% of the members as Honorary members and that includes dependents. We will review your application and will contact you. Please keep in mind that the Honorary cost is $100.00.
