The 91社区 Institute of Oceanography in St. Petersburg welcomed a new ship on Wednesday to enhance its marine research capabilities. The 117-foot vessel 鈥 dubbed the Western Flyer 鈥 features a remotely operated vehicle designed to reveal the deepest parts of the Gulf of Mexico.

People are encouraged to be 鈥渃itizen scientists鈥 and upload photos of any mosquitoes that they find. By identifying the species of mosquito, the team can determine its potential for carrying diseases and alert local authorities to its location.

USF awarded more than $8.5 million to train public health leaders in national collaborative leadership program
In an effort to strengthen the U.S. public health system, three national philanthropic nonprofits joined to award USF grants to lead the PHEARLESS initiative designed to rebuild collaboration and leadership skills among public health leaders.
The USF St. Pete campus will soon undergo construction for the addition of a new science facility to be used to further investigate the marine life and coastal climate struggles that the St. Pete community faces.

USF College of Arts and Sciences teams join forces to digitally preserve a historically Black cemetery in Pasco County
The USF College of Arts and Sciences鈥 (CAS) Dr. Antoinette Jackson, anthropology chair and director of the Living Heritage Institute and Story Studio (LHI) and Black Cemetery Network (BCN), has joined forces with Dr. Davide Tanasi, history professor and director of the Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx), to preserve Mt. Carmel Cemetery, a historically Black cemetery in Pasco County, via 3D digitization techniques.
