Ph.D. Concentrations - Hearing Science
Earning a Ph.D. in CSD with a concentration in Hearing Science can open the door to many rewarding career paths. At USF, our faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and staff have a wide range of expertise and on-going research to make the Ph.D. experience rich and fulfilling. Nine full-time faculty with expertise in hearing science and nine state-of-the-art hearing-related laboratories (see our facilities) support our current research and mentoring in the area of hearing science. With the current shortage of persons with a Ph.D. in hearing science/audiology, we are actively working to grow our Ph.D. program by recruiting promising students with a variety of backgrounds. We encourage prospective Ph.D. students to contact our program director or any faculty with interest areas that overlap your interests. A brief summary of our areas of expertise includes:
- Age-related hearing loss
- Audiological (re)habilitation
- Audiological evaluation and service delivery
- Auditory neuroscience (e.g., animal bioacoustics; human brain imaging)
- Auditory perception & psychoacoustics
- Cochlear implants
- Evoked potentials
- Event related potentials
- Hearing enhancement technology
- Speech perception and sensory neural hearing loss
- Speech perception in reverberation and noise
- Tinnitus & hyperacusis
