Advisory Council

The purpose of the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences Advisory Council is to advise the Dean and leadership team on trends in workforce development regionally and nationally and to help ensure the college鈥檚 academic programs are responsive to the needs of the professions. The Council also works to broaden and strengthen community partner relationships to enhance the college鈥檚 reputation and visibility.


Lee Bercaw, PhD, Chief of Police, Tampa Police Department

Chief Bercaw

Chief of Police Lee Bercaw joined the Tampa Police Department in 1997. During his tenure, he has worked in all three districts. He has become known for his proactive crime reduction initiatives and his management of large-scale events in security and transportation for the Super Bowl, Republican National Convention, IFFA (International Indian Film Academy - aka 鈥淏ollywood鈥), Gasparilla and the College Football National Championship. In addition, he was instrumental in devising quality of life improvements and crime reduction strategies in the city.

He holds a doctorate in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University, as well as a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the 91社区 (USF).

In 2016, Chief of Police Bercaw was honored by the USF Department of Criminology by being named to their Wall of Fame as an Outstanding Criminology Ambassador. He is a board member of the Tampa Bay Area Chiefs of Police Education and Research Foundation.


Alan Davidson, LMHC, President & Chief Executive Officer, Central 91社区 Behavioral Health Network

Alan Davidson

Alan Davidson is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 25 years of clinical experience across a variety of settings including outpatient specialty clinics, crisis intervention, structured outpatient programs, inpatient psychiatric, large nonprofits, and private practice. He has provided clinical and administrative supervision to counseling students, interns, and professionals. Alan is invested in emphasizing a more integrative, dynamic, and holistic approach to behavioral health. When Alan is not creating strategies for growth and improvement within the behavioral health system of care, he enjoys traveling with his wife, hanging out with his dogs, cycling, and boating.


Gwen Green, LMHC, MCAP, Director of Education, Dewdrop Counseling

Gwen Green

Gwen Green is a licensed mental health counselor and certified addictions professional in 91社区 with experience as a counselor, continuing education director, and nonprofit executive director. Gwen鈥檚 work has led to a niche for people facing significant changes such as with careers, retirement, empty nest, becoming a parent, marriage, divorce, and grief. Despite experience with a variety of conditions and specific needs, Gwen prefers to look at the whole picture as opposed to one specific issue. Gwen鈥檚 focus is on overall wellness, which includes tuning into all the different areas of life and looking for patterns that may have resulted in seeking counseling.


Deborah Llewellyn, Supervisor, Speech-Language Programs, Hillsborough County Public Schools

Deborah Llewellyn

Deborah Llewellyn is the Supervisor of the Speech-Language Program for Hillsborough County Public Schools. She leads over 250 speech-language pathologists who provide speech and language services to students in pre-K through 12th grade by developing procedures under state and federal guidelines, providing professional development opportunities, advocating for appropriate student services, and collaborating with professionals across the district to improve systems and supports. She was instrumental in forming a workgroup to create a district procedure for schools to follow for students who have feeding and swallowing concerns. She is especially interested in ensuring speech and language evaluations are culturally and linguistically appropriate for diverse students, so their strengths and needs are properly identified.

Deborah earned a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Tech University in 1994. Through her almost 30 years as a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, she has served populations from birth through adulthood in a variety of settings including acute hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation units, and public schools.


Carol McFarlane, LCSW, Associate Chief of Social Work Services, James A. Haley Veterans鈥 Hospital

Carol McFarlane

Carol McFarlane is the Chief, Social Work Service (SWS), at the Tampa VA. Carol's career path has shown progressive responsibility since starting with the Tampa VA in 2008 in palliative care after leaving a supervisory social work role at Tampa General Hospital. She was selected as the facility's first Caregiver Support Program coordinator in 2010 and was selected as the SW GEC Section Chief in 2012. In August 2014, she was selected as Assistant Chief, SWS. In that role, she has demonstrated strong operational management of the department, leadership with resolving customer service issues and Congressional inquiries, and decisiveness during crises for the past eight years. This includes departmental leadership with the rapid pivot to telework during the March 2020 COVID-19 surge and helping lead the September 2017 provision of family support services at the hospital during Hurricane Irma. Carol received her Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University and holds a certificate as a qualified Supervisor from USF. She is a proud mother of a Marine Veteran, and is a warm, enthusiastic, and determined person.


Charlotte McHenry, MPH, President & CEO, Senior Connection Center

Charlotte McHenry

Charlotte McHenry holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of South 91社区 and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa. She received her undergraduate degree in Health Care Administration from 91社区 Atlantic University. Charlotte has been working at Senior Connection Center since 1994, serving in many capacities of increasing responsibility before being named President and CEO in 2014. Among her many accomplishments during her tenure at SCC, Charlotte was actively involved in the design, development and implementation of the agency鈥檚 transition to become an Aging and Disability Resource Center. Her leadership was influential in the creation of Tampa鈥檚 Care Transitions Coalition, a team of healthcare professionals committed to reducing hospital readmissions among Medicare beneficiaries. As a result of the pandemic, Charlotte and her team were instrumental in the expansion of meal deliveries to help ensure the safety of older adults, as well as the implementation of new programming to mitigate social isolation and loneliness. Since she has been in the role of President & CEO, Senior Connection Center was selected twice by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as a Nonprofit of the Year, seven times ranked as a Top Workplace by the Tampa Bay Times, as well as named as a Best Place to Work in 2019, 2020 and 2021 by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. The Journal also selected her as a 2017 and 2018 Businesswoman of the Year honoree. She was recognized by the American Society for Public Administration as a Public Service Exemplar in 2018. She is also a 2019 graduate of Leadership Tampa.


Jason Wallace, MA, BCBA, Co-Owner, ABA Solutions, Inc

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Tampa, I鈥檝e always had a passion for understanding human behavior. This curiosity led me to pursue a Master鈥檚 degree in Applied Behavior Analysis at the 91社区, where I delved deep into the intricacies of human actions and their underlying motivations. In 2004, fueled by a shared vision, I co-founded ABA Solutions alongside my business partner, Dave Engelman.

What began as a modest venture soon burgeoned into a thriving enterprise, dedicated to using the science of applied behavior analysis to empower individuals in various settings. From its roots in Tampa, ABA Solutions swiftly expanded its reach, establishing a presence in Orlando, Sarasota, and even stretching to the bustling landscape of New Jersey, where our commitment to enhancing lives through applied behavior analysis continues to flourish.

My journey embodies a testament to the fusion of education, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit, shaping ABA Solutions into a beacon of impactful change across multiple communities. With each expansion, our unwavering dedication to helping others navigate and excel in their unique behavioral landscapes remains the cornerstone of my success story.
