Expo

The USF Psychology Expo celebrates our department and our students. The Expo showcases research and opportunities in the field of psychology. This event is open to the community with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and professionals attending. We hope to see you for the 12th Annual USF Psychology Expo in the Fall of 2024.

The Psychology Expo that was to take place this Friday, October 18, 2024 will be postponed. The event is rescheduled for Friday, November 8th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

opens on August 1st and closes on October 4th, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

  • bALLENce Lab (Industrial-Organizational): The bALLENce lab is part of the I-O Psychology program at USF and conducts research on topics including remote work, work-family issues, career development, and occupational health.

  • Potts Lab (Cognition, Neuroscience, and Social): The Potts lab investigates executive functioning, cognitive resource allocation, and motivational systems in mental-illness and personality utilizing event-related potentials. 

  • ART Lab (Clinical): Understanding individual and risk factors in substance/alcohol use disorders and focusing on craving and pretreatment change to explore the
    processes associated with positive treatment outcomes.

Raechel Canipe

Raechel Canipe (B.A. in 2013)

Raechel Canipe combines over a decade of experience in sales, marketing, and operations, with her unique acumen for navigating complex business requirements across diverse sectors including defense intelligence agencies, healthcare, and non-profits. Raechel is also a devoted humanitarian and community advocate, leveraging her expertise to spearhead pivotal initiatives. These include co-founding Project Afghan Relief Fund, tech-enabled emergency evacuation support to rescue U.S. allies after the fall of Kabul, and serving as Founder & CEO of Women in Tech & Entrepreneurship, a community designed to dismantle financial barriers and economically empower women. Raechel's impactful work has earned accolades including the Tampa Bay Inno Fire Award, DeAnne Dewey Roberts Emerging Leader Finalist, and TBBJ Business Woman of the Year Nominee.

Antoinette Maldonado-Devincci

Dr. Antoniette Maldonado-Devincci (B.A. in 2004)

Dr. Antoniette Maldonado-Devincci (B.A. in 2004)
Antoniette M. Maldonado-Devincci, Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina; the largest Historically Black University in the nation. She earned her B.A in Psychology at USF in 2004, her Masters in Cognitive and Neural Sciences at USF in 2007, and her Ph.D. in Cognition, Neuroscience, and Social Psychology at USF. She is highly published and has received extensive awards, including the NC A&T Undergraduate Research Mentor Award (2020/2021), the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising Excellence Award (2022/2023), and the NC A&T Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising Excellence Award. Her research focuses on the impact of drugs of abuse during adolescence and its long-term impact on brain and behavior in adulthood. She is an NIH funded investigator and trains diverse undergraduate and graduate scholars. 

William Pete Riebsame

Dr. William 鈥淧ete鈥 Riebsame (B.A. in 1977)

Dr. Riebsame earned his BA in psychology from USF in 1977 and then went on to complete a Masters degree from Columbia University in New York and a PhD in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth  University in Richmond, VA.  He has been practicing as a licensed psychologist in 91社区 since 1989 providing psychological assessments and psychotherapy.  Dr. Riebsame became board certified in Forensic Psychology in 2006 and subsequently devoted much of his professional career to working with the Courts doing evaluations in criminal and civil matters.  In 2013, he began work with the Veterans Administration treating combat vets with PTSD.  His court-related work continues to date as well as teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework at the 91社区 Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL. 

Niesha Steinke

Niesha Steinke (B.A. in 2001)

Ms. Steinke is a USF Psychology graduate from the Tampa campus. She earned her Masters of Divinity in 2006 from Andrews University and is a Board Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains.  She has been a chaplain for 16 years in the hospital and university settings and currently serves as the Associate Chaplain at AdventHealth University in Orlando, FL.  She is also a trained spiritual director and faculty member of the Audire program for spiritual direction.  Ms. Steinke is grateful for her USF education which prepared her to support the emotional and spiritual well-being of individuals along life's spectrum, caring for humanity in their most vulnerable moments.

Distinguished Undergraduate Psychology Alumni 2022

David Doan

Dr. David Doan (B.A. in 1999)

Dr. Doan completed his B.A. in psychology and BS in nursing at USF in 1999. In 2017, he earned an MPH from the University of Southern California in Global health leadership. In 2017, Dr. Doan earned a Ph.D. in Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences from Walden University. He is currently the Senior Manager Sales Architect in the EY Nexus for Health at EY. Dr. Doan has been active in giving back to USF Psychology. He is on the leadership team of the USF Undergraduate Psychology Alumni Society, he helped significantly with alumni involvement in the virtual psych expos, and he worked closely with members of the USF Student Diversity Committee to develop a mentorship program for undergraduate students. 

Samantha Hamm

Samantha Hamm (B.A. in 2004)

Ms. Hamm received her B.A. from USF with a double major in Psychology and Gerontology. She works as an advisor in the USF Department of Psychology. In 2012, she was selected as a Lead Advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences. She is an exceptional and thoughtful leader of the USF Psychology Advising Team, and she has won numerous awards. Not only was she recognized as a King O鈥橬eal scholar for her perfect GPA at graduation, but she has also received the Outstanding Academic Advising Award and the Outstanding Staff Award for Student Success.

Distinguished Undergraduate Psychology Alumni 2021

Dr. Gary Blau (B.A. in 1983)

Dr. Blau served over 25 years in government at the state and federal level, including as Chief of the Child, Adolescent and Family Branch for the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration where he provided national leadership for child, adolescent, and young adult mental health, and created "systems of care" across the United States. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the HHS Secretary鈥檚 Award for Meritorious Service for his national leadership in children鈥檚 mental health. Dr. Blau recently assumed the role of Emeritus Executive director of the Hackett Center for Mental Health in Houston, TX. 


Dr. Tiffany Chenneville (B.A. in 1992) 

Dr. Chenneville is currently a Professor of Psychology at the University of South 91社区 on the St. Petersburg campus and she also holds the Marie E. and E. Leslie Cole Endowed Chair in Ethics at USF. She has received millions of dollars in funding for her research on pediatric AIDS, with a special focus on youth in the U.S. and in South Africa. As evidenced by her book, A Clinical Guide to Pediatric HIV: Bridging the Gaps Between Research and Practice, she is not only passionate about research but also about applying that research to better the lives of youth.


Victor Sims (B.A. in 2016)

Mr. Sims is a graduate of the USF St. Petersburg campus psychology program. His background as a child of the foster-care system has led him to passionately serve as an advocate for foster children. He is well-known for his legislative activism and national service in support of foster children. Mr. Sims was recognized by the American Bar Association as a Reunification Hero in 2019 and was recognized as a 2020 Casey Excellence for Children Award as an Alumni in care. 


Nicole Stokes (B.A. in 2003)

Ms. Stokes is a USF Psychology graduate from the Tampa campus. She also earned her MPH from USF. She is currently Managing Director of the Northwestern Mutual North Tampa office and Clearwater office and a big supporter of Psychology at USF. In the greater Tampa Bay community, Ms. Stokes is well known for her work supporting women and girls through a number of community organizations and has received accolades for her work from multiple organizations.

Distinguished Undergraduate Psychology Alumni 2020

Dr. Ernest Boger II (B.A. in 1965)

Dr. Ernest Boger was the first African American student to graduate from USF. Dr. Boger has had a successful career working with the military and in academia. He is a national leader in hospitality industry education and training and served as chair of the Hospitality and Tourism Management department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. In 2016, he was awarded the USF President鈥檚 Fellow Medallion in recognition of his accomplishments as well as breaking down racial barriers. 


Dr. Michael Rogers (B.A. in 2005)

Dr. Rogers now serves as the Assistant Director for Training at the USF Tampa Counseling Center. In his current role, he oversees three training programs, continuing education for clinicians, and chairs the center鈥檚 committee on diversity and inclusion. Dr. Rogers is currently Co-Chair of the USF President's Advisory Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (CISOGI) and is a member of the USF Coordinated Campus Response Team (regarding sexual assault/harassment). 


Carlos Santos (B.A. in 2018)

Mr. Santos was a Research Assistant under the supervision of Dr. Jay Michaels and completed his Honor鈥檚 thesis, presented his research at 11 national and international professional conferences, and co-authored two peer-reviewed journal articles. He was also the recipient of a 2018 Society of Personality and Social Psychologists conference Diversity Undergraduate Travel Award and received a travel scholarship from the Center for Mind and Culture to present at the 2018 International Association for the Cognitive Science of Religion conference. Mr. Santos is now completing his M.A. in Psychology at Wake Forest University with full funding.

  • Dr. Tammy Allen - Worker Wellbeing in a 24/7 Work Culture Brief overview of I-O psychology followed by examples of research that examines work-family issues in today's fastpaced, 24/7 work culture.
  • Dr. Mike Brannick - Simulations for Training Surgeons Novice surgeons have to gain skill somehow; simulations can reduce the time  spent learning on real people. I'll show some evidence about skill development in laparoscopic surgery.
  • Dr. Diana Rancourt - Disordered Eating Behaviors: Who, What, Where, and Why An investigation of the role of social and individual factors in the development and maintenance of disordered eating behaviors among both healthy and pediatric populations.
  • Dr. Joe Vandello - Manhood is Precarious Review research examining how people think about manhood, and how this thinking affects health and wellbeing. Compared with womanhood, manhood is seen as a fragile, impermanent social status. Because of this, men will take actions to restore their manhood when it has been threatened. Such actions have implications for men鈥檚 aggression, risk-taking, health, and work attitudes.

Paul Kubena, M.ED. (B.A. in 1974)

Mr. Kubena served for over 25 years in Alaska providing educational needs of a diverse population of students and then went on to serve in educational administration in the Caribbean, the Middle East, and South America.

Distinguished Undergraduate Psychology Alumni 2016

Ann Grazier (B.A. in 1964)

Ms. Grazier worked for decades as a social worker at the Pinellas County Department of Social Services (now known as the Pinellas County Department of Health and Human Services), where she helped impoverished clients secure financial and medical services. Retired since 2002, Ms. Grazier continues to help the community, most recently as a volunteer at Daystar Life Center, which is a grassroots helping agency in St. Petersburg.

Dr. Seth Kalichman (B.A. in 1983)

Dr. Kalichman is currently on faculty at the University of Connecticut in the Social Psychology division. He is a prolific and well-funded researcher who is committed to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS (with a focus on South Africa).


Dr. Sylvia Carra Hahn (B.A. in 1969)

Dr. Carra Hahn opened one of the first forensic private practices in Tampa in 1975, which flourished for 43 years until her retirement. Dr. Carra Hahn continues to be very active in the community, including serving as a public member of the Citizens Advisory Committee of the 91社区 Bar Board of Governors and as a member of the USF College of Arts and Sciences Dean鈥檚 Advisory Council.
