Local Food Economy
Welcome to the Local Food Economy Working Group!
Our goal is to develop a holistic economic model of the local food system in Tampa Bay, including the economic impact of social, health, and educational activities as well as a comparative cost benefit analysis of the local, circular food system vs traditional farming with emphasis on how much each puts back into the local economy.
Our guiding objectives include:
Objective 1: Evaluate the economic contributions of Tampa Bay鈥檚 local food system as a model for a circular food economy compared to traditional farming鈥檚 linear food economy
Objective 2: Evaluate the economic contributions of Tampa Bay鈥檚 local food system holistically combining direct economic contributions of local food businesses, including revenue, employment, and local spending with economic returns from social, health, and educational activities
Objective 3: Identify and evaluate barriers and incentives within existing and historical policies and zoning codes that limit or encourage the growth and redevelopment of Tampa Bay鈥檚 local food system.
Join us in our efforts to build a community-driven food economy that sustains both farmers and consumers while promoting long-term food system health and security.
