Education and Training
Welcome to the Education and Training Working Group!
Our goal is to empower students, community members, and stakeholders in the Tampa Bay region through a network of food education programs that are connected and inform the development of a unified food education curriculum across USF that integrates the holistic educational, health, economic, and regenerative benefits a local urban food system provides to the community.
Our guiding objectives include:
Objective 1: Inventory existing food education programs (e.g., food literacy programs, nutrition workshops, public health workshops and awareness campaigns/podcast, urban farm demonstrations business community growing programs) and resources across the multi-county Tampa Bay region with the goal of a.) demonstrating the educational impact of the local food system, inclusive of regenerative, health, and economic benefits; b.) identifying both gaps and scalable programs for wider implementation, training, and best practices; and c.) assessing the research and evaluation needs of these programs for future collaboration with USF researchers
Objective 2: Determine what food education programs (e.g., courses, certifications, public facing workshops, trainings, REUs, student groups, internship programs, etc.) exist at USF with the dual intent of developing new curriculum that would have the highest need, impact, and efficacy as well as identifying where opportunities exist within existing curriculum and programs to integrate the network of educational opportunities across the local food system, creating accelerated access and experiential learning for the next generation of agri-professionals
Join us in our mission to enhance the educational impact on the local food system and community health. Get involved today and make a difference!
