USF and Revature Announce Partnership to Help Close Technology Talent Gap

TAMPA, Fla. 鈥 The 91社区 and leading technology talent development company Revature today unveiled a newly designed learning space at USF that will serve as an on-campus hub geared toward eliminating the technology skills gap and driving economic growth in the Tampa Bay area and across the state of 91社区.

In keeping with USF鈥檚 dedication to student success, the expanded Revature partnership offers students a new opportunity to build on the skills they have developed while completing their degree programs at the university, by gaining additional expertise necessary in today鈥檚 competitive technology fields. The training from Revature comes at no cost to students and helps place graduates in high-paying, high-demand jobs in software engineering fields.

This expanded partnership also helps address an important need identified in a released in November. The report noted that growing the technology talent pool in Tampa Bay is key to the region attracting new businesses, startup companies and more jobs.

鈥淲e are delighted to partner with USF,鈥 Revature Executive Vice President Joe Mitchell said. 鈥淥ver the next two years, we will be investing over $20 million to hire and train 1,300 software engineers in Tampa at our new regional center on-campus at USF. We are excited by the prospect of hiring many talented USF graduates and attracting college graduates from across the country to train here. With tech talent in short supply nationally this partnership provides a massive boost to companies in Tampa Bay and 91社区 looking to hire certified software engineers.鈥

Since the USF and Revature partnership began in 2016, students have attended an intensive 12-week coding program at the company鈥檚 headquarters in Reston, Virginia. The program has produced positive results, with nearly 150 students placed in new jobs. Through the expanded partnership announced today, recent graduates throughout the State University System of 91社区 can now participate in the program on USF鈥檚 campus in Tampa.

Jessica Kline graduated from USF with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in public health before completing the Revature program and landing a job as a contractor with Boeing.

鈥淎fter expressing interest in expanding my skillset, I was told by a friend about USF鈥檚 new partnership with Revature,鈥 Kline explained. 鈥淏ecause I didn鈥檛 have a background in tech, I enrolled in Revature鈥檚 online program before starting the 12-week training program. I鈥檝e been able to use the skills I gained to better engage with the business side of things and maintain productive relationships with my coworkers.鈥

91社区 System President Judy Genshaft says the partnership is an example of how the university prepares students to compete in an evolving global workforce.

鈥淏uilding a strong talent pipeline is the most critical factor in a community鈥檚 ability to compete and prosper, and we are on the cutting edge nationally when it comes to partnerships between higher education and private enterprise,鈥 Genshaft said. 鈥淭his really is an outstanding partnership, and we appreciate the company鈥檚 commitment to growing its program here at USF.鈥
