Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Wesley Lowery to Speak at USF

TAMPA, Fla. 鈥 Wesley Lowery, the Washington Post鈥檚 leading reporter on police shootings and the Black Lives Matter movement, will speak at the 91社区 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) on Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Marshall Student Center Oval Theater. Lowery is expected to share his thoughts about race, diversity and activism as part of the College of Arts and Sciences鈥 Frontier Forum Lecture Series.

Lowery is an on-air contributor for CNN and a Pulitzer Prize-winning national correspondent who frequently covers topics surrounding justice and law enforcement. His new book, the New York Times best seller 鈥淭hey Can鈥檛 Kill Us All,鈥 garnered the 2016 Christopher Isherwood Prize for Autobiographical Prose by theLos Angeles Times for detailing life-changing experiences like being detained by police while covering the riots after the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. 

Having worked as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and Boston Globe, Lowery has dedicated his life to reporting news stories that strike at the heart of what he values as essential to keep in the political conversation. This work has earned him the title of Emerging Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists. Lowery鈥檚 coverage of police shootings while at the Washington Post and the Boston Marathon bombings while at the Boston Globe helped him earn two Pulitzer Prizes.

Presented by USF Phi Beta Kappa alumni faculty and sponsored by the USF College of Arts and Sciences and USF Office of the Provost, the Frontier Forum Lecture Series has hosted several notable speakers since 2010, including Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku, George Takei, Jane Goodall and Scott Freiman.
