Inspiring Future Nurses: USF College of Nursing and Pepin Family Foundation Expand Summer Pathway Program

Student examines an eye.

For the second consecutive year, the 91社区 (USF) College of Nursing and the Pepin Family Foundation have joined forces to offer high school students an insightful glimpse into the nursing profession. During the week-long Pepin Family USF Summer Nursing Pathway Program, students participated in simulations that honed their problem-solving skills, earned their CPR certifications, and learned what it takes to embark on a fulfilling and impactful career in nursing.

鈥淥ur family is honored to partner with USF to provide this program, bridging the gap between high school and collegiate nursing education," said Tina Pepin, Director of the Pepin Family Foundation. "Providing resources for the future healthcare workforce is critical to our mission."

In addition to a certificate, each student received a stethoscope as a commemorative gift, symbolizing a hopeful future in nursing.

鈥淲e were blown away by their thoughtfulness and care for their communities鈥攖wo hallmark qualities required of nurses,鈥 said Dr. Betty Jordan, USF College of Nursing Senior Associate Dean of Student Success.

Over three hundred applications were submitted from across Pasco, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties. This year, the program doubled in size, accepting 50 sophomores and juniors. Many of these students would be the first in their families to attend college if they choose to pursue a degree.

Stay tuned for more information about next summer's Pepin Family USF Summer Nursing Pathway Program.
