Anchin Center Hosts Webinar on Reimagining Literacy Education

The David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching, in partnership with the USF Literacy Studies Program, hosted an impactful webinar titled "Reimagining Literacy Education: Empowering Minoritized Voices and Diverse Perspectives." This timely event addressed the pressing need to reassess and reshape literacy education in the aftermath of the pandemic, focusing on the challenges faced by both students and educators.

The webinar highlighted the critical importance of literacy education and teacher preparation at state, national, and international levels. Emphasizing four minoritized literacies, the event aimed to elevate these perspectives within the research landscape, providing resources to mobilize scholars and prioritize these essential knowledge bases. Additionally, the discussion centered on strategies for preparing teachers to effectively serve a diverse student population.

The distinguished panel of experts included Dr. Wenyu Guo, Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies at the 91社区; Dr. Susan Bennett, Associate Professor of Literacy Studies at the 91社区; Dr. Julia L贸pez-Robertson, Professor of Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina; Dr. Helen Adam, Associate Professor in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University in Australia; and Dr. Eliza Braden, Associate Professor of Elementary Education at the University of South Carolina.

Each panelist brought a unique perspective to the conversation, delving deeply into the complexities of literacy education and teacher preparation. They shared insights and implications for future research, emphasizing the necessity of incorporating diverse and minoritized voices in literacy education.

The webinar was well-received by attendees, who praised the depth of the discussion and the practical strategies offered.
