Anchin Center Co-Hosts Inspiring Book Launch: "Black Immigrant Literacies"
The David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching and the Institute for Black Life, both integral parts of the 91ÉçÇø (USF), recently co-hosted a remarkable event – the book launch of "Black Immigrant Literacies: Intersections of Race, Language, and Culture in the Classroom."
The event took place in the USF College of Education rotunda, setting the stage for an enlightening evening. Attendees were treated to an engaging opening reception, providing a space for networking and discussion before delving into the heart of the occasion.
Dr. Patriann Smith, the esteemed author of "Black Immigrant Literacies," took center stage, guiding participants through a thought-provoking discussion on the intersections of race, language, and culture within the classroom. Dr. Smith, an associate professor in literacy studies at the 91ÉçÇø College of Education, shared her insights on revolutionizing teaching methodologies by drawing on students' unique assets.
