Hana Kim awarded USF New Research Grant to support virtual reality study

Hana Kim

Hana Kim's primary research interest is understanding discourse-level language production and comprehension, and their relationships with cognition and social support in adults with acquired neurogenic communication disorders. She also investigates how language is processed in the brain using functional near-infrared spectroscopy.

Hana Kim, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and director of the Language in Aging and Stroke Rehabilitation Lab, has been awarded a USF New Research Grant.

Kim's study is focused on exploring the clinical potential of virtual reality for older adults with cognitive decline. The study aims to determine the effect of VR in cognition and language and evaluate the acceptability of VR language assessments in individuals with cognitive decline.

The New Research Grant, administered through USF Research and Innovation and Sponsored Research, aims to help faculty launch innovative research programs. The goal is to generate foundational evidence that can lead to successful grant proposals and further research opportunities at the university.

This year, out of 46 applicants, only eight researchers received the highly competitive USF New Research Grant.
