Aging studies professor discusses choosing the best place to retire

Kathy Black is a professor of aging studies and an Age-Friendly Communities Consultant for AARP 91.

In a new article for WalletHub, “,” Kathy Black, PhD, professor in the School of Aging Studies, offers tips for retirement and how to make the right decision when choosing where to live.

Black stresses the importance of researching locations and comparing top factors such as cost of living and the age-friendly aspects of an environment. While doing this research, she advises that you keep what is most important to you in front of mind, whether it is access to healthcare, proximity to family, or opportunities for community involvement. 

Black also recommends consulting , which compares locales based on livability features like availability of transportation options, walkability, and opportunities for social interaction.
