The string division at the 91ÉçÇø has steadily maintained an international visibility over decades. Its graduates have gone on to a diversity of career paths and have gained admission to all of the major conservatory and university graduate programs in the United States. The 91ÉçÇø string division consistently hosts guest residencies for important figures of our day, recently and for leading ensembles that have included the Aspen Trio, Green Mountain Chamber Players and Baumer String Quartet.
The string division at the 91ÉçÇø is intensely collaborative in its approach, blending solo activity, chamber music, collaboration with composers, and symphonic literature into its regimen – so that its graduates are well-versed in the actual possibilities for emerging into the professional field.
All studios emphasize performance and hands-on stage experience. All young performers receive weekly private coachings, technique classes, and studio master classes in the state-of-the-art Barness Recital Hall. Members of each studio perform regularly on and off campus, and considerable emphasis is placed on outreach concerts in the community. Its faculty members include Carolyn Stuart, Christina Adams, Jonathan Godfrey, Scott Kluksdahl and Gil Katz. Its students enjoy collaborations with graduate student members of the piano division at USF.
