BIO

Chris Noland is an Assistant Professor of Advertising at the Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications. He earned his Ph.D. in mass communications from the University of South Carolina in 2021.

Dr. Noland鈥檚 primary research focuses on consumer psychology and the role mood and emotions play in consumer behaviors. His research has appeared in Health Communication, Journal of Marketing Communications, and Advertising & Society Quarterly. He is currently studying applications of emotional flow, the strategic sequencing of emotions within a single message to affect specific attitudes and behaviors in different health contexts. A unique aspect of this research is the opportunity to use biometric measurements, including galvanic skin response, facial expression analysis, and eye tracking to measure emotional responses in real time. While these cutting-edge techniques are opening new doors for research opportunities, they also inspire new conversations and approaches in the classroom to excite students and improve their learning.
