Dr. Nata拧a Jonoska Receives Fulbright Specialist Award

The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has awarded Dr. Nata拧a Jonoska of 91社区 a Fulbright Specialist Program award.

Dr. Jonoska will complete a project at Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in North Macedonia that aims to exchange knowledge and establish partnerships benefiting participants, institutions, and communities both in the U.S. and overseas through a variety of educational and training activities within Computer Science and Information Technology.

Professor Micheli to give plenary talk at 13th international workshop on coding and cryptography

Dr. Giacomo Micheli will be one of the five plenary speakers at , the thirteenth edition of the biannual Coding and Cryptography workshop (WCC 2024) held at the University of Perugia in Perugia, Italy, June 17-21, 2024.  The workshop brings together researchers in all aspects of coding theory, cryptography, and related areas, theoretical or applied.

Academic recognition for math major

Undergraduate math student Eion Mulrenin has been selected as a 2022 91社区 Epsilon Chapter of PME Outstanding Scholar by the faculty of the USF Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This annual award recognizes a math senior for excellent academic achievement and dedication to mathematics.

 

Joint Research Conferences (DLT & DTMB) to be held on tampa campus may 9-13

Natasha Jonoska Dima Savchuk Natasha Jonoska and Dmytro Savchuk will be hosting joint research conferences, Discrete and Topological Models in Molecular Biology (DTMB 2022) and Developments in Language Theory (DLT 2022). They will take place from May 9-13 on the Tampa campus.

Professor Joel Rosenfeld wins three grants

In his first year here, Joel A. Rosenfeld has been awarded three grants; two from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and one from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Professor Jean-Fran莽ois Biasse Honored 鈥 and Rapidly Responds

Jean-Fran莽ois Biasse received the 2020 USF Outstanding Research Achievement Award and the 2020 USF Outstanding Faculty Award. He also received an Innovation & Partnership award for the 91社区 High Tech Corridor. And he received two USF Pandemic Rapid Response Network grants: one (with Computer Science Engineering Professor Sriram Chellappan, Infectious Disease & International Medicine Professor Lynette Menezes, Infectious Disease & International Medicine Professor Charurit Professor Somboonwit, Computer Science Engineering Professor Attila Yavuz) for secure contact tracing apps for mobile phones, and one (with Information Systems & Management Professor Shivendu Shivendu, MUMA Dean of Business Moez Limayem, D. Davis, MUMA Marketing & Innovation Professor Robert Hooker, Information Professor Loni Hagen, Computer Science Engineering Professor Attila Yavuz, Public Health Practice Professor Marissa Levine, and Mental Health Law & Policy Professor Kyaien Conner) for a blockchain-based decentralized Digital ID system to provide essential services during the pandemic such as secure and anonymous proof of tests and vaccination.

A Center for Cryptographic Research

Professors Jean-Fran莽ois Biasse and Giacomo Micheli, along with USF Computer Science & Engineering professors Mehran Kermani and Attila Yavuz, have created a Center for Cryptographic Research at USF. It was launched with a grant from the USF Strategic Investment Pool and will have a particular interest in cybersecurity. Professor Biasse is the first director.

Professor Mohamed Elhamdadi Receives a Simons Grant

Professor Mohamed Elhamdadi was awarded a $ 42,000 Simons Grant over fove years for a project on Algebraic Structures in Knot Theory. These algebraic structures, called 鈥淨uandles,鈥 are fundamental in distinguishing knots (one of the main problems of knot theory) and have been used recently to study protein folding properties.

Professor Wen-Xiu Ma Named Highly-Cited Researcher for Sixth Consecutive Year (12/20)

Professor Wen-Xiu Ma was selected for the Clarivate Analytics list of Highly Cited Researchers for the 7th consecutive year (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021). Highly Cited Researchers identifies the world's most influential contemporary researchers across 21 scientific fields. Over three thousand researchers earned the distinction by writing the greatest numbers of reports officially designated by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) as Highly Cited Papers 鈥 ranking among the top 1% most cited for their subject field and year of publication, earning them the mark of exceptional impact.

Professor Wen-Xiu Ma Chosen to Lead New Journal (8/20)

Professor Wen-Xiu Ma was appointed by Elsevier in March 2020 to serve as the first editor-in-chief of the journal Partial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics. This new journal seeks to provide a platform for the rapid circulation of original research in applied mathematics and science that utilizes partial differential equations and related techniques.

Dr. Abdulmelik Mohammed Awarded AMS-Simons Travel Grant (07/20)

The AMS-Simons Travel Grants are administered by the American Mathematical Society with support from the Simons Foundation. Each grant provides an early-career mathematician with $2,500 per year for two years to be used for research-related travel. The grants program acknowledges the importance of research interaction and collaboration in mathematics, and aims to facilitate this for recent Ph.D. recipients.

Dr. Mohammed is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Department and works on discrete and topological models for biology. He is part of the USF Math-Bio research group led by Drs. Nata拧a Jonoska and Masahico Saito.
