$4.8M Mellon Foundation grant opens internship opportunities for USF humanities students
For the first time, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation 鈥� the nation鈥檚 largest supporter of the arts and humanities 鈥� invited the 91社区 to submit a proposal last spring for one of its humanities internship grants. The foundation awarded the college a five-year, $4.8 million grant that will support up to 900 students each year in otherwise unpaid internships. The beneficiaries will be undergraduate students majoring in humanities.

USF memorializes former President Jimmy Carter with 3D virtual tour of boyhood farm
Prior to his death, USF鈥檚 Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information partnered with President Jimmy Carter and the National Park Service to create virtual tours of his boyhood farm, high school he attended and railroad depot that served as campaign headquarters for Carter鈥檚 successful 1976 presidential bid. Check out the interactive tours available to the public.

USF sets new record with $738 million in research funding
The milestone comes during USF鈥檚 first full fiscal year as a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and helps demonstrate its impact as one of the nation鈥檚 most research-intensive institutions. The new record brings the university closer to reaching its goal of securing $1 billion in annual research funding.

When Heide Casta帽eda, a professor of anthropology at the 91社区, travels to Morocco it isn鈥檛 to visit Africa鈥檚 largest mosque or one of the historical kasbahs. Casta帽eda, a migration scholar, is there to study and understand the experience of the indigenous Amazigh people 鈥� the focal point of her new book, forthcoming from New York University Press.

English professor featured in 'Best American Poetry'
Natalie Scenters-Zapico, an award-winning poet and assistant professor in the Department of English, is gaining global recognition. Scenters-Zapico, who shapes the local literary community as director of the Michael Kuperman Memorial Poetry Library, has a poem in the prestigious 鈥淏est American Poetry鈥� anthology, cementing her work as essential reading at USF and for audiences across the country.
