AISHA DURHAM WINS PRESTIGIOUS MARSHA HOUSTON AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION

Aisha Durham, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Affiliated Associate Professor in the Departments of Humanities & Cultural Studies, Women's & Gender Studies, and Africana Studies at the 91社区, recently received the inaugural Marsha Houston Award from the National Communication Association (NCA).  

The award is named for Dr. Marsha Houston, noted African American feminist Communication scholar, who was instrumental in helping raise and duly ensure recognition of the collective academic voices of African American women and other women of color in conventional feminist communication. Dr. Durham's cutting-edge research offers substantial methodological, theoretical, and practical insights that resonate across several disciplines and areas of study. Durham鈥檚 interdisciplinary research poses timely and necessary challenges to Communication Studies scholarship and embraces transdisciplinary perspectives and embodied cultural experiences. At the intersections of Black feminism, intercultural communication, and hip-hop studies, Durham鈥檚 critical cultural Communication scholarship takes seriously Black women and girls鈥 communication lives and futures. 

鈥淣CA鈥檚 annual awards honor Communication scholars鈥 teaching, scholarship, and service,鈥 NCA Interim Executive Director Linda Taliaferro, CAE, said. 鈥淣CA is proud to recognize Dr. Durham鈥檚 significant contributions to the Communication discipline with this award.鈥
